for Misty

she finds spiders and birds
in the folds of her heart
waiting for her to pluck them
give them life

she looks into the mirror
sees the eyes of her ancestors
in each pupil, each iris
each flower in her eye

she puts her name in a teapot
letting it steam until
just right for steeping

she finds butterflies behind her
ears, moths in her hair
they wait for her to discover them
living

in the mason jar of her mind
(holes in the top for air)
where creatures live a happy
existence
never waiting for anything
again

Enjoyed that, the originality and, yes, the ethereal feel.

you took down that rant about poetry editors!!!! i was able to read it on my google reader,, but then came here to comment and it was gone... i do not have your email address, so i am wondering if you will email me at whypaisley@gmail.com,, so i can comment,, as to do so here without the article seems senseless,, and if you took it down you may not want to discuss it in a public forum...

feel free to delete this comment...

Spiders and birds in the folds of her heart! Oh, this is so beautiful, Holly. You have written an awesome tribute for a friend. It makes me feel like I know her and like her a lot. I love the playful feel of the poem. I also love the butterflies behind her ears and moths in her hair that wait for her to discover them. Wonderful work.
